My cat is throwing up more hair balls than usual. Is there something I can do to help prevent this, or slow it down?

To help your cat with hairballs, there are several things you can do:

  • Brush your cat daily. There are special brushes that will remove the thick undercoat without damaging the top coat. The Furminator is a good one.
  • Give your cat a hairball supplement several times a week such as Laxatone. This petroleum based product helps lubricate the GI tract helping your kitty pass the hairballs.
  • Feed your cat a hairball prevention diet. These diets are specifically formulated to aid in removal of excessive hair in the GI tract.
  • Keep your cat on monthly flea control. Sometimes excessive grooming is a result of a flea problem. Remove the fleas and your cat should not excessively groom herself.
